Big Sheep Creek is in southwest Montana about 25 miles south of Dillon. It begins in Dell on I-15 and ends at the junction with MT 324, east of Grant. The 50-mile route follows Big Sheep Creek and Medicine Lodge Roads. The roads are primarily two-lane gravel roads; a short stretch is a narrow, dirt road. Two-wheel drive vehicles can safely drive the byway. Motorhomes and vehicles pulling trailers should not attempt to complete the byway. Big Sheep Creek Back Country Byway is usually open May through early October.

Garnet Range is approximately 30 miles east of Missoula in western Montana. It begins south of Greenough on MT 200 and travels east to the area of Reynolds City ghost town. The byway is 12 miles long and follows Garnet Range Road, which is accessible by car in good weather from May through October. From January through April, the route is marked and groomed as a National Winter Recreation Trail for snowmobile use and cross-country skiing.

Kings Hill is in central Montana about 25 miles southeast of Great Falls. It follows US 89 for 70 miles between Armington and White Sulphur Springs. US 89 is a two-lane paved road suitable for all types of vehicles and generally remains open year-round. Driving the byway in winter requires extra caution.

Lake Koocanusa scenic byway is located in northwestern Montana, northeast of Libby. The byway forms a loop drive around Lake Koocanusa between Libby and Eureka. It is 88 miles long and follows MT 37 and FSR 228, which are two-lane paved roads suitable for all vehicles. Temporary closure is possible during winter, otherwise the byway remains open year-round.

Located in north-central Montana, Missouri Breaks lies about 40 miles north of Lewiston. Eastern access is in the Charles M Russell National Wildlife Refuge at US 191. It forms a loop drive back to US 191 with four side trips to scenic overlooks along the Missouri River. The 73-mile route follows Lower Two Calf and Knox Ridge Roads, which are mostly two-lane gravel and dirt roads that can be negotiated by passenger cars in dry weather. Large RVs and vehicles pulling trailers should not attempt the Two Calf Creek Crossing nor the side roads off Lower Two Calf Road. Missouri Breaks is generally passable May through October.

Pioneer Mountains scenic byway is in southwest Montana. It begins in Wise River, which is about 35 miles southwest of Butte, and travels south to Polaris. The byway is 40 miles long and follows FSR 484, which is primarily a two-lane paved road suitable for all vehicles. A portion of FSR 484 is a narrow, gravel road that requires slow speeds. This segment of road is near Elkhorn Hot Springs and is not recommended for motorhomes and vehicles pulling trailers. The byway is usually open mid-May to mid-November.

The Saint Regis to Paradise scenic byway is located in western Montana about 70 miles northwest of Missoula. It is 22 miles long and follows MT 135 from Saint Regis to the junction with MT 200. The state highway is a two-lane paved road safe for travel by all types of vehicles. It usually remains open year-round but winter driving requires extra caution.
