Big Walker Mountain Scenic Byway
Big Walker Mountain is 90 miles west of Roanoke in southwest Virginia. It begins west of Bland at the junction of I-77 and US 52. It follows US 52 and VA 717 for a total of 16 miles and reconnects with I-77. The two-lane paved roads remain open year-round and are suitable for all types of vehicles.
Blue Ridge Parkway

Blue Ridge Parkway is a 469-mile drive between Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains National Parks. This portion is in western Virginia; it travels between Shenandoah NP and the North Carolina state line. The byway is 217 miles long and is a two-lane paved road suitable for all types of vehicles. Portions may close from November to mid-April, otherwise the byway remains open year-round.
George Washington Memorial Parkway

George Washington Memorial Parkway is in northeast Virginia and south-central Maryland. Portions of the scenic drive pass through Washington, D.C. This portion begins in Mount Vernon and travels north to I-495. The byway is 24 miles long and is primarily a four-lane divided highway suitable for all vehicles. In Alexandria, the byway follows Washington Street. George Washington Memorial Parkway is generally open year-round.
Highlands Scenic Tour
Highlands Scenic Tour is 50 miles northwest of Roanoke in central Virginia. It forms a loop drive beginning and ending in Longdale Furnace. The 20-mile route follows VA 770, VA 850, and FSR 447. Virginia Highway 770 is a narrow road with steep, hairpin turns; vehicles pulling trailers should not attempt this portion. The other roads are a combination of paved and gravel roads suitable for all vehicles. Virginia Highway 770 and FSR 447 are not maintained during winter and are usually impassable December to March. Virginia Highway 850 is generally open year-round.
Mount Rogers Scenic Byway
Mount Rogers is 30 miles east of Bristol in southwest Virginia. It begins in Damascus and follows US 58 east to Volney. Another segment follows VA 603 between Konnarock and Trout Dale. Both highways are two-lane paved roads; US 58 is not recommended for vehicles longer than 35 feet. The byway is 56 miles long and usually remains open all year.
